Witch of Portobello – Famous Quotes

I finished reading The Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho a week ago and I manage to list down some of my favorite quotes on this book. Feel free to add your favorite quotes on this book as well.

  • The purpose of the light is to create more light, to open people’s eyes, to reveal marvels around.
  • No one sacrifices the most important thing she possesses : LOVE.
  • How many of us will be saved the pain of seeing the most important things in our lives disappearing from one moment to the next?
  • No one can manipulate anyone else. In any relationship, both parties know what they are doing, even if one of them complains later on that they were used.
  • The physical world and the spiritual world are the same thing. We can see the Divine in each speck of dust but that doesn’t stop us from wiping it away with a wet sponge. The Divine doesn’t disappear; it’s transformed into the clean surface.
  • You can’t measure love the way you can the length of a road or the height of a building.
  • What is a teacher? It isn’t someone who teaches something, but someone who inspires the student to give of his best in order to discover what she already knows.
  • I don’t see why I should bother to look for someone who never took the trouble to love me.
  • Your wounds will help you
  • We don’t possess the earth, the earth possess us.
  • I’ve always been a very restless person. I work hard, read one book after another, but that’s all a way of avoiding those moments when nothing is happening. Because those blank spaces give me a feeling of absolute emptiness in which not a single crumb of love exists.
  • What is happiness? Love, they tell me. On the contrary, it is a constant state of anxiety, a battlefield; it is sleepless nights, asking ourselves all the time if we are doing the right thing. Real love is composed of ecstasy and agony.
  • Poverty might bring unhappiness, but money won’t necessarily bring happiness.
